The cricket world was rocked on Tuesday, April 22, when reports of Amit Mishra being accused of domestic violence emerged. As per those reports, Amit Mishra's wife Garima, has alleged that she was harassed by the cricketer and his family and had filed a complaint accordingly. Many thought that it was the leg-spinner, who played for the India national cricket team and several IPL teams, who has been accused in this case. But it was not. The leg-spinner, who last featured for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024, sent out a post on social media where he slammed the media for using his name and picture while sharing 'unrelated stories' of him being accused of domestic violence by his wife, Garima. This is a case of mistaken identity, with both the cricketers sharing the same name. The interesting part is that the 42-year-old cricketer, in an interaction with IANS, also confirmed that he is not even married! He dismissed all such allegations about him and also threatened to take legal action if such reporting did not stop. In reality, it was not actually he who was named as the accused but his namesake, who is a cricketer from Uttar Pradesh and has played in the IPL as well.

The cricketer in question is also named Amit Mishra, but he hails from Uttar Pradesh. Born on November 11, 1991, in Kanpur, Amit Mishra is a right-arm medium bowler who made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Tamil Nadu in the year 2013. On his debut, he picked up two wickets and bowled alongside the likes of RP Singh and Piyush Chawla. Earlier that year, he made his List A and T20 debuts for UP as well, against Railways and Karnataka, respectively.

Amit Mishra has featured in a total of 17 First-Class matches, where he has taken 50 wickets. In 12 List A games, he has picked up 18 wickets, while that tally is 34 in his T20 career, where he had 34 appearances. What is the Domestic Violence Case Against Amit Mishra?

As per a report in UP Tak, Amit Mishra's wife, Garima Tiwari, has levelled these serious allegations against him. She has claimed that he and his family tortured her for dowry after they tied the knot in 2021. They demanded a sum of Rs 10 lakh and a car and when it was not met, the torture started. Along with him, Garima Mishra has named the cricketer's family members as accused in this case. Not just this, but Garima Tiwari, who is also a model, has reportedly accused her husband of taking away her money. As per her allegations, Amit Mishra physically assaulted her for dowry and she has claimed that he had extra-marital relationships as well.

Moreover, the report adds that such torture took a toll on Garima's mental health and she even attempted suicide. Her worsening mental health led her to quit modelling as well, says the report. Garima Tiwari has reportedly filed a case against Amit Mishra and his family, seeking compensation of Rs 1 crore and the next hearing is reportedly scheduled for May 26.
